Mac OS X Compatibility Mode“Catan – Cities & Knights” is basically ready to be run on older Macintosh computers with PPC processor and/or Mac OS 10.4 X „Tiger“. Although we recommend the use of a modern Intel based Mac with 64 bit processor (Core 2 Duo or newer) and Mac OS X 10.5 „Leopard“ (or newer). Please note: It is highly recommended to install the latest update of Java on your Mac. On Mac OS X 10.5 you need to install at least “Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4”. You may conveniently install it through the “Software Update” in the „Apple“ menu. Alternatively you will find it for free download at http://www.apple.com/search/downloads/?q=java+update+4
Running „Catan – Cities & Knights“ on an older Macintosh ComputerYou can find out about the version of Mac OS X and your type of processor you are using by clicking on “About this Mac” in the “Apple” menu. If one of the following conditions is true for your Mac
“Catan – Cities & Knights” will display the error message shown below:
“Catan – Cities & Knights” should preferrably be run with Java 1.6, also known as “J2SE 6”. However, Java 1.6 is available only for Macintosh Computers with Mac OS X 10.5 (or newer) and 64 bit processors (Intel Core 2 Duo or newer). To run “Catan – Citites & Knights” on a Mac with an older processor (Intel Core Duo or PowerPC) and/or Mac OS X 10.4, you can switch “Catan – Cities & Knights” to a compatibility mode. Afterwards the program will also run with Java 1.5. Please note that the optimal program execution is just possible with Java 1.6. If this should not be possible on your Mac, please follow the the following easy steps to activate the compatibility mode in “Catan & Cities & Knights”.
Step 1 – Show Package ContentsPlease click the “Catan – Cities & Knights” program icon with your right mouse button (or click it with the Ctrl key held down) and select “Show Package Contents”.
Step 2: Activate compatiblity modeIn the now open window you will see the application icon „Compatibility_mode_on.command“. Please open it by double-clicking it.

If you should want to deactivate the compatibilty mode at a later time (e.G. after migrating your user profile to a new Mac or after updating the operating system), you may do so by double clicking the application icon “Compatibility_mode_off.command”. Afterwards please close both the window “Completed Command” and as well as the package contents “Catan – Citites & Knights”.
Step 3: „Catan – Cities & Knights“ runs on your Mac as well
