Whenever a player requests a certain type of card, e.g. in a monopoly or a trade, the cards openly change hands. If, however, a certain amount of cards are required, e.g. at a wedding card, or a player is allowed to choose cards from a player, e.g. through a trade master or a spy, the cards change face down so that the other players who are not involved in the action cannot see which cards change hands. Also at the trade port, where a raw material is offered in exchange for a commodity, both cards change hands face down.
