Viking Wood Pieces
The Viking edition was created for all fans of wooden game pieces. The large game pieces are modeled on buildings and ships from the Viking era; you can obtain them exclusively at the Catan Shop.
They are available for the Base Game as well as for the three expansions “Seafarers” and “Cities & Knights”. In our slide show we will present you the game pieces in detail.
The set for the Base Game consists of 145 wooden game pieces; it also includes the pieces for 5- and 6-player games.
The settlements are modeled on Viking houses with their characteristic gable cross. The cities have the simplified shape of a Nordic stave church. The robber holds an ax in his right hand and a sack in his left.

The set for the Seafarers expansion consists of 91 wooden game pieces; it also includes the pieces for 5- and 6-player games.
The design of the ships is based on the typical merchant ship of the Norsemen, the knarr.
The pirate ship has the typical shape of a Viking longship.
The set for the expansion “Cities & Knights” consists of 101 wooden game pieces; it also includes the pieces for 5- and 6-player games.
A wooden ring symbolizes the wall you can build around a city to protect it. A gold-colored top piece makes the stave church one story higher and thus identifies the city as a metropolis.
The knights are available in the 3 familiar strength levels. The basic knight has to cope with the barbarians all by himself, the strong knight has one follower, and the mighty knight even two of them.
To indicate that a knight is activated, a gold-colored flag is placed next to him. As soon as the knight is deactivated, the flag is removed again and returned to the supply.
The barbarian ship is modeled on a nef. The nef developed from the Nordic knarr and is a precursor of the cog.
