In 1996, only one year after the board game “The Settlers of Catan” was published, the Seafarers expansion came out. In the Base Game, the players try to secure the best building sites for settlements and cities for themselves as they are competing for the resources brick, lumber, ore, grain, and wool. The scenarios of the Seafarers expansion pose entirely new challenges: here, ships are built to discover and settle unknown ocean islands; settlements and cities on new islands earn the players special victory points that may be crucial for winning the game.
The Cities & Knights expansion was published in 1998. Barbarians threaten Catan, and the players must combine the strength of their knights to fend off the barbarian hordes. In spite of permanent danger, the players upgrade their cities to metropolises and try to get advantages over their game partners with the help of new Development Cards.
Traders & Barbarians, the last expansion for the time being, was published in 2007. With its great number of variants and scenarios, this expansion offers entirely new challenges on Catan. Try your hand at being a fisherman on Catan, control the profitable route of caravans or send your wagons on a journey and prove yourself as you provide the Council of Catan with marble, glass, and tools.
The game Kids of Catan is the first Catan adventure for children between 3 and 6 years of age. The beautiful, high-quality game components invite to collect resources with a handcart and then use them to build the buildings of the village – for example, a church, a bakery, or a school.
If you don’t want to be without “The Settlers of Catan” when you’re traveling, then the Travel Edition is a good choice for you. The small box fits in every carry-on, and it’s still the same attractive game as its big brother.
