(Mazine Test) Game of the Year 1995 The best group game Customers' vote February 2002 German Game Prize 1995 for the best game rules German Game Prize First Prize 1995 The actual master achievement of the author is to create a game of settlers, in which there is no army and, as a result, no armed conflict. Westdeutsche Zeitung Variable game plans, exemplary rules, multi-faceted game play- this is pure game excitement. Südkurier Our players were truly convinced of the game, which happens seldomly. And if you do not believe it, then convince yourself. Volksblatt Klaus Teuber, four-time winner of Germany's "Game of the Year" award, creates yet another masterpiece. The game is very logical and has fathered plenty of new games. Frankfurter Rundschau Germany, a land of settlers. If this saying were to come from an advertising agency, they would be blamed for the ever-present lingo - but it isn't advertising, it's the truth. Süddeutsche Zeitung There has not been a game in recent years as convincing as "Settlers of Catan." Donaukurier Pamphlet of ?Prof. Easy Tutorial? included in game To begin the game, we build the playing field with hexagonal landscape tiles. Catan is born ? a beautiful island with mountains, pastures, hills, farmland and forests, surrounded by the sea. We each place two small houses on spaces where three of these landscape tiles meet, as our starting settlements. And so it begins. I roll two dice. An 11! Each landscape carries with it a die number. Each person who owns a settlement on a landscape tile with the rolled number receives a resource from this landscape. The hillside contains Clay, the forest delivers Wood, Ore from the mountains, Grain from the farmland and Wool from the pastures. We expand further through Catan with these resources: We can build roads, new settlements, or upgrade our existing settlements into cities. A road will cost one Clay and one Wood, for example. If we do not possess the necessary resources, we can trade with the other players to acquire them. Each settlement brings one victory point, each city brings two. The first player who expands cleverly and earns ten points is declared the winner! Short info: Requirements: Ability to trade, strategy, tactics, luck Ages: Adults and children 10 and up Number of players: 3 to 4 (with the expansion set, also playable with 5 or 6 players) Length of game: 60 to 75 minutes
